Vermont Vita-Learn along with a group of very interested and helpful friends, has sponsored the initial Rental of a plot of Land on the ISTE island in Second Life that will be open for use by our NEISTE groups. It is hoped that as each group comes on board, they will donate a sum to help offset the cost of the rental ($375/year) or that NEISTE will pick up the tab and reimburse Vita-learn.
After our March Meeting, several folks from both Vita-learn and Actem along with help from Jeff Mao from Maine, decided to take a serious look at using Second Life. As it turned out, ISTE had purchased several islands and although plots were going fast, they happened to have a rental great space left on island2. Neil made some calls and before you know it, ISTE was holding the property in reserve for us pending us getting in the paperwork.
Forms have been sent. Once Jennifer at ISTE gets them, we will meet her at the property and acquire the official title to the property at which point we can do with it what ever we choose. It has been suggested that we should get a groups of interested folks together and just meet at the property (perhaps just around a campfire or warming pit) and figure out what will work best for the overall affiliates and NEISTE in general.
Stay Tuned for further developments. Here I am sitting at our neighbor's Picnic table looking across at our land. That building you see on the other side is one that Jeff has been working on.
If you are interested in being involved with the creation of this space, please let Neil Manders know and we will add you to the 2nd Life contact list :))
